GasGas and the FMF Q silencer

All I can say is amazing.

Bolted on a new FMF "Q" spark arrestor to an '07 EC200 this weekend for a District 23 (Minnesota) Hare Scrambles and got sound tested at 85db!!

The sound checking crew thought there was something wrong with their meter and tested it again to be sure. Sure enough 85db!

Of course sound meters can be out of calibration and I'm not declaring that an FMF "Q" spark arrestor will get you down to 85db but I think FMF deserves a "thumbs up" for making a great product that more than gets the job down.

Like the saying goes - "Less sound = more ground"

Any possibility of them coming out for the older bikes? My '04 could use some help at 94-96db.

That's good news.

The realist in me says "More Sound = Less Ground" - we're not going to get "more ground" unless we buy it.

Dave

Hasslbri and I had that same converstation on our way back from the Monticello Hare Scramble yesterday.

Sad to say but I think your right all we can hope to do is slow the taking of land use rights away.

The current mood of our lawmakers and executive branch is to either close or restrict as much ground as they can.

In a never ending quest for a quiet bike, I have done many things. I have done it to be less worn out at the end of the day, before the sound issue was even in the forefront as it is today. I have an FMF Turbine core on my '01 EC 300. The bike was tested at 88db at a local race, and I have tested it myself with myown meter at between 87 and 91db depending on surroundings. I have recently added a db snorkel which is a very interesting addition, though I have not measured it with the meter, it is quieter still.

At one point I modified a KDX silencer in search of the 82db my brother in law's KDX blew at a race, but It blew 86-89 db. (I think the variances are from being too close to other stuff.) I even painted it silver because one of my friends commented that it was an abomination to have that silencer on my Gas Gas.

If anyone wants it, it'll fit the early Gas Gas.

Check out page 5 & 6 in this thread. I put one on my '05 MC 250 today.

I installed a Stealth on my '08 EC300 a few weeks ago. I perform sound checks for our local club at events, have all the equipment and am well versed in the J1287 Sound test standard. My 300 blew an 85.7 at my house which is about 2000' altitude. We checked it at our last event 2 weeks back at about 5500' and it blew 83.5. I am very happy with the results and well worth the money in my opinion.

Wow, that is impressive. My Husaberg with the Ti akrapovic (which happens to be bigger than the muffler on my turbo diesel p/u) whispers 90 db which is the quietest I've heard. The sound testers always marvel at it's stealthiness, and this new Q will put mine to shame. Good stuff!

That's really impressive. My FMF Turbine Core 2 blows around 93-95dB.

I'm anxious to see how mine will do. It didn't sound quiet in the garage on the lift with a bunch of tools rattling themselves off the metal deck :D , but even in there I could hear it definitely took the edge off.

IIRC my TCII blew 92dB the last time it was actually measured last fall.
