1999 EC250 Fair Price?

Greetings all,

I'm new to the site. I arrived here last night while doing a bit of research on a bike I'm looking at. I'm located in the Tampa, FL area.

So I found a 1999 GasGas EC250 that is tagged and registered for the street. It has ~750 miles on the odometer and supposedly hasn't really gotten much use in the past 14 years. As far as I can tell there are no issues with the motor, compression seems fine and during a test-drive there was nothing unusual in terms of the powerband. The only thing that is wrong with it is brake light switch in the rear master cylinder. I bought a new switch for $47 and can install that myself.

Here is a link to the bike in a craigslist advert, all the relevant information about the bike and photos are here:

So I could purchase the bike for $2400 but I get the feeling that that price is a fair bit higher than it should be. I really do love the bike... I ride a GSXR right now and I was thinking of picking this up as a second bike.

So my question is do you all think that $2400 is much higher than should be payed for it? If so I can always wait and bide my time and perhaps hope someone on this Forum sells something like it soon :)

So what does everyone think?

Thanks,
-Nathan

Just for reference I'm planing on asking $1700 for my 2000 GasGas 250 in similar condition. Only its not plated. I dont think I'll get much more than $1500 for it. So yes that seems high. Maybe for it being plated I'd pay a little extra. Say $1800 - $2000 but thats about it.

Last fall I picked up a 2000 EC250 with MN. title. It was shipped up from Smackover when new to MN. It's in very nice condition still wearing the factory Michelin tires at that time. I paid $1700 for it. I was fine with the price because it was a street legal 2 stroke enduro. I always wanted another titled dirt bike since I sold my 00' XR650r in 04'. The GG does every thing better except highway travel. Good luck in your search!

Yes, $2400 seems a bit high for a 99 EC 250. Try Kelly Blue Book just for kicks!

Don't look at kbb or nada if you already bought it, you will be upset.

Not yet

No, I haven't purchased it yet. And given the recommendations here I'm leaning toward waiting for a better deal to emerge in the future sometime.

Here...read this thread! http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14157

It apprears to be a very clean bike, very much the way it rolled off the show room floor back in 99.

The issue seems to be the high asking price...

If your going to dual sport that thing, since it is plated, then it might be a good buy. If your going to race it in hare scrambles and enduro, then it will be a bit dated. Regardless, a soild machine and looks to be taken care of!

Good luck!

Thats high. I had my 97 up for $1k and had just tire kickers.. Its street plated but up in Pa.. and has the CB motor so almost no vibrations and the big 180w lighting coil and $1k was hard to pull..
