General advice for New Owner

1 Attachment(s)
Big news the new EC300 has arrived in the state after a 4000 km journey from West Australia!

Attachment 8607

Its my first 2 stroke since a 1980 PE 250 (I know i am showing my age:D)

After some general advice:

1. Any tips on running in?
2. Any preferred oils for the gearbox?
3. Is 50:1 the right premix ratio

Thanks for your help in advance:cool:

Congrats!

1.) ride it calm when engine is cold, ride it normal when engine has warmed up, avoid WOT in deep sand or steep uphills, shift a lot and after two hours its ready to braaaaap!!
2.) any oil you like but GG says it should be 10/40. More important: no auto oil with friction reducers, check its suitable for wet clutches (jaso-MA)
3.) Yes

Have fun and drop a line from time to time :D

Advice;

Yes, ride it before your state gets locked down.

That's if ScMo can ever bring himself to backing down and admitting this might actually be a problem. So, no rush then. He's as quick as a Hillman Hunter stuck in 2nd.

We're locked down in Victoria, I'm even thinking of draining the fuel out of my bike, I don't see a chance to ride it in at least 6 weeks from now.

Congrats on the new bike, I bought mine 2nd hand from WA too but they shipped it rolling not crated up like that.

The first mod to do is to fix the suicide kickstand.

1. Warm up fully (radiator uncomfortable to touch) and then run it like you stole it!
2. Any motorcycle specific motor oil in the correct weight range or ATF Type F or any racing ATF. I run ATF Type F in all my 2T's here in the US.
3. 50:1 should work just fine as long as you are using a high quality 2T oil and not one intended for weed whackers and chainsaws.

relocate or ditch the horn

Ditch the cable choke in favour of the carb mounted plunger if it still has the cable version. It is just a pathway for dirt in your carb.
