Average age of GG riders!!
Guys/Gals... here is a poll based on the eyesight post in the General forum:
How old are you? I'll start, I am 37. I think the GG's are like a fine wine. When you're young you drink crappy cheap beer (jap 80/125cc) A bit older and you think you can handle more (Jap 450/euro 525cc) Then you get smart and you drink something that won't give you a headache in the morning. (no jap equivalent) (GG 200/250/300) |
I wanted to vote twice but couldn't. I got my crusty old butt in the survey but not my 17 year old's.
|
I guess that's one way to look at it. Been riding for over 40 yrs. I'm 52.
My first bike was a green SL 125. Opps I guess it wasn't a XL.... I would say my GG300 is like a nice glass of Glenlivet.:D |
38 years riding. I'll be 52 this month. My first bike was a brand new Honda SL70, for $425 out the door. It was too small for me when I got it and I rode it for 3 years!
|
I'm 48, I've had a GasGas in the stable for 10 years.......I prefer a nice Zin!!!
Since were on the topic of fine wine and Gas'er;) http://www.klinkerbrickwinery.com/index.htm |
41 years old. been riding forever, but i'm relatively new to offroad - only been riding offroad full time for 3 years (yeah, i had dirt bikes before that, but only randomly rode them, and had zero technique. i also lived in an urban area with zero offroad areas), and been racing for 2......better late than never! still trying to rid myself of bad habits i learned on the street...
|
52 sounds like the number, three of us so far.
I don't drink wine, prefer good beer. Not Bud either, I ride through the water that is used to make a lot of that swill. |
Just turned 50. Caught the motorcycle bug at 10; the neighbor had a z50 which didn't run. They said that if i could get it to run, i can ride it. (long before law schools opened enrollment to anyone.) Try that now.
That led to a used 1971 SL100, which led to an obsession which hasn't yet abated. I bicycle commute about 3000 miles per year, run at least 30 miles per week, and feel really good. Bones still heal pretty well. The brain seems fine. No medication. My only really problem is going from great vision (20/10) to not being able to see well up close. I guess I have to deal with it. Other than that, all seems good. I drink maybe 2 beers (no swill) per month, and smoke 2 cigars per year. That's it for vices. |
I turn 45 this year. Started riding when I was 10 I think.
|
48... started riding kinda late.. late 20's.. broke my neck (c1-c2) at 33, sold everything... finally the kid got to be about 13 and talked mama into riding again.. sure dont push it like we used to...
first bike was an 81 xt250 yamaha... coors light for me... |
Ok I am 52 on my 2nd GasGas been rideing for over 40 years and have tried a lot of different bikes but like the GasGas best. The one bike I still love though was my 1974 Husky WR250 Man did I have fun on that bike when I was wild and 18.
|
54 here, started at 13 on a street bike delivering papers, can you say seat time? I didn't discover dirt until about 17. Rum for me please
|
According to my paperwork I'm 42,, tho I usually claim 30 still so should I vote twice? I go by the motto,, "if you never grow up you'll never grow old".. and so far so good.. sorta.. I'm a beer drinker,, and hit the hard stuff on occasion.. no smoking tho.. not in 22 years at least.. been riding since I was like 9 or 10,, had a 72 honda ct70 as my first "real" bike.. then a xr100,, 83KDX200/240kitted, various bikes since.. too many to list.

I am 39 although going by my wifes age I am 29.
I have been riding bikes for about 7 - 8 years. Had the gasser for the last 3 I reckon. Cheers Mark:D |
53 here and riding on/off since teen years. Don't ride enough (3 times last year including getting the shit kicked out of me at the Maine National enduro) and spend more time on the mtn. bike. Maybe this year more dirtbike riding;) 165 lbs, body and plumbing work great (read no Viagra needed here:D) but like many others the close up vision needs cheater glasses. I'll take it considering what some otheres my age already deal with.
|
I'm 52. Got my first bike when I was 14 (Honda SL125) and haven't been without a bike of some sort ever since, usually several. I'm enjoying riding now maybe more than I ever did - over the last 5 years or so there has been a huge increase in organised fund raiser trails rides. These are often on private land and have provided sooo many more riding opportunities.
|
46 here still enjoy cold beer and bikes started riding at 5 qa50 the best days is a good ride with the grandson 6yrs. old and watching him race i just picked him up ty80 for a trail bike and my first gasser and a set of glasses to.

Good post!
Well the age meter is about to roll over to 42. But your only old as you think you are. I keep trying to think I'm 25. It's not working! :( Started riding on my 10th birthday got a Yamaha TY80 trials bike to learn on then came the mx minis. Raced motocross and trail rode up until I was about 17 and then girls, party's and getting out on my own got in the way of dirt bikes. I got back into dirt bikes when I was 31 and have rode mostly offroad since. Not much mx, just what are added to the Hare scrambles courses and a MX practice day here and there. Roscoe |
Awesome keep it up guys!
Here is my "list" of bikes: 83 Yamaha pw80k 88 KX80 93 YZ 125 00 DRZ 400s 04 YZ 250 (big mistake) 05 KDX 200 05 DRZ 400s (lets try it again) 06 KTM 450XC 10 GG EC300 |
I'm bumping up to 48 shortly, been riding for 35 years, first bike was 1979 Can Am 175 qualifier, raced off and on for 11 years for places to ride in southeast Pa., gave up riding for 6 years after moving to Colorado, my wife was the first to want/get a GG 300 (I got one a year later), and I started trail riding again seriously the last 3 years. My eyes are going as the lights get dimmer (sigh) but still don't need glasses. No major injuries, no stitches, no broken bones...I gave up my major vice recently (Mountain Dew) and switched to Diet Dew (another sigh) trying to lose weight gained since marriage. Never drank, never smoked. I ride with folks 18 years younger and 25 years older so I think I have many more years ahead of me! Can't wait until this riding season gets into full swing in Colorado!

Turned 41 this year and been riding off/on since 10 years old. My parents took me to "Sidewinders" , a local flat track race venue, when I was 1 week old! My uncle raced flat track for several years. I have been infatuated with motorcycles ever since. Raced a few harescrambles and enduros over the years, but mostly just trail ride with my family and friends, which for me, brings the biggest smiles. One major "get-off" at 18 yrs. old which resulted in 2 broken wrists, a surgery, many stitches in my face and a week long hospital stay. No health issues now, just 20 lbs. overweight and love my wifes cookies. I still like to mix it up with the younger crowd from time to time, just to show 'em how it's done!
Started on a Sears catalog mini-bike w/ Briggs and Stratton 5hp engine. I thought I was pretty hot on that mini-bike and rode the wheels off of it. My first "real" dirtbike was a 1976 Honda XL250. The List is long: Yamaha IT175, IT490, WR250, WR450 Honda XL250, XR500, XR250, XR400, CR480 Kawi KDX200, KDX220 Suzuki DRZ400 KTM 200, 250, 300 EXC Gasgas EC250 ('03) I love my '05 DE300 Gasser and it fits my needs just fine. Cant see going with anything else! |

I will be 60 in June.....doesn't seem possible!
I have tried to live my life with the intent of not having any regrets when the time comes. I think I have pretty much achieved that. I have had way, way too many bikes to list in my 45years of riding. I have had a DKW/with leading link forks, two Bultaco Pursangs, two Pentons, two Huskys, loads of Yamahas and Kawasakis, a couple of Hondas, even an Aprilia trials bike! My last two new dirt bikes have been GG's. I have raced in many states and Mexico and have done pretty well. Yep, no regrets....well, let me just say that I have a little regret for one of those Bultacos....the 125 sucked, the 250 was the best MX bike I ever had! |
Well I better throw this out there, in 18, onto my 4th bike and my second gasgas. Been riding 5 or is it 6? years.
I have another gg friend who is 22 or 23, nationally ranked, and another who is 19. Not really evening it out, but just 2c I guess theres barry, but hes already posted on here. |
Getting 44 this year, 3d GG and like strange american beer (http://www.skabrewing.com/ & http://www.shipyard.com/):)
|
I've had those. My sister-in-law got me a micro brew club membership for Christmas, where they send you two types of beer from two different breweries every couple months. Some good stuff. For the mass produced stuff I think Canada has us whipped, right Scotty? Like that stuff.
My bikes over the years, spanning some time off periods: '71 Rupp mini bike '72 Kawasaki G5 100 '74 Yamaha YZ125 '76 Bultaco 370 Pursang '76 Yamaha 650 (street) '79 Suzuki GS1000 (street) '81 Honda CR250 '83 Yamaha IT490 '86 Kawasaki KDX200 '87 Husky 510 '96 Honda XR400 '98 KTM 200 EXC '99 KTM 300 EXC '00 GasGas XC250 '03 GasGas EC250 '07 GasGas EC/DE 250 '08 Ducati Hypermotard 1100 (street) Next? Maybe a 300 soon, still thinking about it. I race less, ride steep nasty stuff more. It might fit the bill better than it used too. |
I'm 58 and have had a few bikes over the years.

No surprise we are looking like a typical bell curve already.
|
I'm 28, had a 6 new Yamaha's from 2000 to now. Raced all over the Pacific Northwest, BC and Washington. Had a couple of Honda's before that and a 96 KTM 250EXC. Just bought my first GG last month. Have only ridden it a couple of times, (waiting for snow to melt), but love the motor so far. Still hoping the suspension continues to break in. I wanted to try out a true 2 stroke purpose built enduro bike and I don't care for my local KTM dealer. Been riding since I was 10, started out on a fold down handlebar CT70 Honda.
11 EC300 |
I started riding at 21 right after I got out of the Army in 1968. I'm 64 now and it's still the only sport or activity that has held my interest continuously for all these years. I've lost count of the bikes I've had over the years, but I kept a few favorites.

Twenty one ... with twenty years experience. My heart feels young, but the rest of my body reminded me this morning of my true age after riding yesterday for the first time since October. Gotta work the aches and pains out though, because the race season is just around the corner.
The first bike was a new/non-current Yamaha DT100, which led to a dozen or so Yamaha's over the years, both street and dirt. The stable has at one time or another included a Sportster, a BSA 650, and a YZ125/EXC200 hybrid. Without a doubt the best off-road bike I've owned was last year's GasGas XC250, and I'm expecting to love the 2011 just as much. |

I can see the headlines now...." a recent poll undertaken by Spanish motorcycle manufacturer, Gasgas, turned up some suprising results. It seems 80% of Gasgas owners are blind, bald and over sixty. Most of them admit to riding like idiots even though by now they should know better. Market research also reveals the most purchased aftermarket accessory is a billet machined alloy zimmer frame mount that attaches neatly to the rear mudgaurd...."
