Holeshot on Electric Bike at AMA HS

I am a member of the Florida Trail riders. This link came from their forum.

I couldn't believe it until I saw the video......WOW!

Thats great. Why not, as long as the technology naturally evolves and is not forced upon us like the cars. Can you do a 2 hr race on a charge or have to pit for a battery swap? What displacement class was that?:confused:

Where did he finish in class and o/a? Did his bike have any mods? I'm not ready to give up the petroleum but you can't ignore good results.

Charge is going to be the last thing to sort out I'm sure. It would be handy to have battery life for a 100 mile enduro.

Imagine never shifting gears!

great!
I like the electric bikes

And no sound, or at least none you can hear among other bikes. Sounds like an R/C car. You could ride that on the Police chief's front lawn and he wouldn't hear you. When its viable it will sell, but it has to hold its own without being propped up by a govt. subsidy.

I was in that race (super-senior B class)!

I hope people realize that this was a dead-engine start race and that's why the electric bike got the holeshot!

Steve

P.S. I managed 3rd place at the race, my best finish ever on the GG 300! I was in 2nd until the last corner when I let someone by because I was tired and had no idea I was doing so well.

I race BSSR as well. That guy is a good rider, would have done well on any bike. Yes, the electric motor is instant torque right off idle, and I imagine very easy to modulate. I wonder what the rest of the bike is like, as far as components, balance, handling, etc. as well as overall toughness and longevity.

I don't know very much about them. Here is the link to the Zero MX;

420 chain? that giant rear sprocket + super long chain looks like a recipe for disaster.. they're definitely getting better, both battery life and suspension appears upgraded - still not there yet, but rapidly approaching raceability... they're getting close to being out of the trail bike class.. i think the modulation ability of electric power could be a huge advantage in woods.
