Brake lights

I am wondering if the brake lights usually work ok on the bikes that come with taillights, and brake switches? My taillight is inop, so i can't check the brake light operation. But i wonder if i bought a working taillight, if it would work?

The reason is, I am considering setting it up for bare minimum legality. There is a dual sport ride coming up at the Desert 100, along with the other rides. And i might zip tie a dealer plate on, and ride along with a the klr's and drz's.

I figure headlight,tailight,brakelight, mirrors, Dealer plate :)

Ps anyone have a working tailight in my area to sell?

I have a feeling the lights get full of water and then don't work so good. Thats the case with my 2010 model anyway. Easy way to check is to trace the wiring back and hook it up to a battery.

The rear light on my bike has never worked even with two new and different taillights.

My 12 tail/brake light works good. Although I unplugged the brake light and took the light apart and sealed it so no more leaky.

I bought my 12 with a busted tail light and when I got the oem replacement it died again halfway through the season. I picked up a tusk led taillight and after sealing it with silicone to waterproof it and a bit of dremeling it fits great. I haven't had any problems with it since I put it in and it's really bright. Also it's the same harness as the stock light which made it easy to plug in.

I put a Polisport LED brake/tail light on my bike but used all the OEM wiring and brake switches and mine has worked since last June when I hooked it all up.
