Different engine?

Long story short I (censored) up my head pretty good. Mistimed exhaust cam somehow and Bob's your uncle, detonated one exhaust valve and broke the other. Detonated valve wreaks havoc on aluminum head and you want to cry to your mother.

So at this point, you get to reflect and ponder what could be.

I have a few options at this point.

1. Fix damage. Send to machinist, they install new valve seats for exhaust, do proper build up and then I rebuild.

2. Find used head. 02-05 FSE, not the most common and seemingly in very short supply.

3. Install different engine. Something similar with better parts availability, DRZ?

Anyone have any thoughts? Suggestions? Success installing different engine in chassis? Spare head lying around?

That head looks salvageable to me? I think I'd rather have a freshly machined head than a used one with possibly unknown origins.

The issue is cost. Engine Dynamics down in Petaluma quoted me like $450 just for the welding and valve seat replacement. I just looked at another place on the good old interwebs and it seems that they're a bit over priced.

Contact Antonio at Motocrosscenter.com. He might have a good deal for you.

Motocrosscenter is in Europe but i think he might get you a good price even for shipping.
I got "new" cylinder, piston (from engine that was never started), crankshaft and little used crankcase sides etc from him. They have spares and old stock.
