NETRA Hare Scramble 5/1

Anyone going to the Tuxedo Ridge HS? This is only about 45 min from my house, on a ski slope! Should be fun. I was planning on an enduro the same day but will do this instead.

Not me sorry.

This was a great event on a perfect weather day! Up and down a ski slope mtn. both on fast open stuff and tight rocky woods. Both fast and physical. Not much mud considering all the rain. I haven't had my bike wide open for so long is quite awhile. I saw a few GGs, some new ones with Dirt World Cycles stickers. This was the first time for this event and they would like to do two a year if everything went well, which it appeared to do so.

Awesome wish I could have gone.

One of my best friends is in the club. I'll call him and see what the consensus was, but they used to put on two HS a year at another location and would like to do the same here. It was great for families and spectators too. Basically all the amenities of a small ski slope.

Only issue was the signup/transponder rental was a bit slow and the race was delayed a half hour, but this is not unusual. They ran out of rental transponders, as there were a lot of non NETRA riders. It was like an all star game. I had my ECEA transponder reflashed.

I got a great start and then got screwed up behind a few guys crossing a steel pipe in a short woods section, loosing momentun and getting hung up myself. It normally takes me a lap to loosen up, one thing I don't like about HS. Worked up to eigth place and started to run into lappers. Tangled with a lapper on a greasy hill and went down, lost a place. Last lap I think I got two back, but could be wrong. Just as I got the checkered flag by the antenna, I looked and then a guy bummped be from behind and his data displayed, so I think (not sure) I ended up seventh in the combined A/B SS class. Because they ran out of rental transponders, some guys had to be scored manually. I didn't stick around for the results.

The bike ran great, and did not give up anything on the start or the WFO uphills. I ran an MT-16 with Tubliss in the rear. Worked OK, but I gave up some in greasy rocky woods for sure vs. the trials tire. I dogged a guy for half a lap running one, and could not get by in the woods, having to wait for the open.

Lots of GoPros on helmets, so there has to be footage on Youtube somewhere, I'll take a look.

Thats great! Funny how the wide angle really cleans up the trail and makes it look smoother, almost easy.

Except Dave is a AA rider and you can tell it is real tough

In video 2 he hits the proverbial wall.

That makes me feel better, that the fast guys screw up a hill or two and hit trees as well. The woods sections were short but rough especially in the later laps when they got more dug up and greasy. A lot of carnage on those hill sections where you see him stop.
