Earthquake in Chile!
 

Just heard this, a 7.7, about 700 miles north of Santiago. Hope everyone is OK. Any first hand reports?

Based on what I see, the earthquake was located far north of La Serena.

It was near Tocopilla

STRONG EARTHQUAKE SHOOK THE ISDE

Chile is a moving land. Earthquakes are always threatening its people. A 4 Richter degree moved La Serena today and scared some visitants.

Of course riders barely noticed it, while at 12:40 in the day everybody wondering around. Many foreigners were alarmed because of their lack of experience in these situations, and went out of their corresponding offices.

There were no human or material damages. The centre of the earthquake happened in the regions of Tarapacá and Antofagasta (7,7 degrees Richter scale), which is 890 kms to the north of La Serena, and 1,363 to the north of Santiago. In La Serena and Coquimbo the intensity reached 3 degrees in the Mercalli. It lasted for 50 seconds.
