Broken Water Pump Impeller

A guy I ride with was having weird overheating problems.
When we saw coolant in the trans oil I know it was time to tear it down, and as stated the impeller was split in half.
He did order a aluminum one to replace the plastic one.
I don't see an advantage to using a plastic one except cost savings, if you want to build a better bike their are some areas that you just don't cut corners.
I just wanted to post this so it may help others with over heating issues.

The good news is we also did a top end (same time) at 127 hours and everything looked great except the reeds were chipped at the edges.

I have a 08 and I was wondering if gasgas is still using plastic impellars with the newer bikes ?

As far as I know - GasGas no longer uses a phenolic (plastic-like) impeller - it is alloy. I believe the '08 would have the newer impeller.

I would check, there was a period in time when anything was possible. Some pre '07 bikes had alloy impellers and my '07 to my surprise had a plastic one.

This is an 09, so I'd check your bike to make sure

Wow , THey really are all over the place with stuff aren't they.

Is there a gasket that I'll need to have on hand to replace or is it a reusable oring?

Looking at the GasGas partlists, there hasn't been a change in part number since 1996 all the way through the 2010 EC and MC's throughout the 15 yr. span. ME25610007 is the part number on the 2010 model which is the "plastic" impeller. GoFasters sells the alloy impellers, so maybe someone decided that it was a good investment to put one on before they sold it is a possibility.

That's not good...

I hope GG clean out the old parts bin of these awful plastic ones...and I don't mean cleaning them out by putting them in bikes.:(
