Anyone 're anodized shiver internals? ##Now SSS conversion

As title really.

My shivers whilst not performing well also have no coating on the damper rods.

This leads to the oil being ready for the bin after 5mins!

Am I wasting my time getting the internals re anodized? I'm assuming there is something in the top of the cartridge that is causing it to wear.

Cheers for any input.

You're better off doing the KYB conversion.

Plus 1 for kyb

Thompo 06-16-2018 03:53 PM

Yep that's my thoughts exactly lol.

I have a set of 2003 46mm kyb open chamber of a yz450 here I got only for the 0.46 springs (fit 45mm marzocchi). Forks cost 20quid.

Previous owner didn't care for them. Oil is obviously used but far better than my 6hr old oil. Internals are like new.

Uppers are damaged so I can't swap them but I am looking at swapping the cartridges with a bit of work (kyb cartridge damper rod etc. With marzocchi top cap and hybrid kyb marzocchi base valve pistion arrangement adapted to fit.

I am keeping an eye for some Sss or asos forks.
Any showas worth a look? Sss $$$ :(

Well that didn't take long..

Pulled the forks last night and the inner surfaces of the uppers are worn, obviously been over tightened at some point.

Quick look on eBay and I have some 2008 YZF 250 SSS enroute to me.:D

Will have to see about what other bits I need to get it done on the cheap.

Expect a new thread on valving the SSS once I get them apart.

Few threads covering the topic already. Worth having a read.

I wouldn't necessarily say someone has over tightened the Marzocchi at the clamps. Their build quality, coating materials, and tolerances all leave a lot to be desired. More than a couple reports of them going to shit now (both on gg and beta).

Thanks ive read up a fair bit on your threads and few others,

Just going to wait until my forks arrive to figure out offsets and what needs machined using the gasgas triple clamps or if ill end up swapping the lot.

Braking PoW106 needed to get the brake running appears to be discontinued now :(

Just had a look and found a couple still available here in Australia.. still appears to be listed on braking website too.

Some further googling revealed I can get one direct from Talon UK :)
Granted most of the sites I seen them on were US and they were showing as not available or discontinued.

After reading a bit more my SSS may be 2007 which could use a different mount anyway. Im on a 2011 with Marzocchi 45s and I think with the older SSS fork could mean I need both top and bottom clamps bored. Might be easier to get YZ/WR clamps and weld on a stop. Hopefully they arrive soon, I need to get measuring lol.
