Gearbox oil 2stroke

Hi guys!!

Has anyone use this and what are your thoughts:

-MOTUL TRANSOIL EXPERT 10W40
-CASTROL MTX 10W/40
-BELRAY GEAR SAVER 80W
-MOTOREX GEAR OIL RACING 10W/40 = Using now
-GRO 10W/40 = Used before

I dont have a lot of choice with in the stores, but want to try something else.
My 2013 gasgas 300r has the typical rattle in the gearbox (sound on neutral, but goes away if if press clucth) and occasionally slips under heavy load. So im trying to find the best oil with the choices i have...

Thanks in advance!!

You almost have to try different oils and see what works best for you.

I use Castrol full synthetic, either 0w/20 or 5w20.
Both work well for me.

Every motorcycle with straight cut gears has that rattle to some extent. Nothing to be worried about. Run a good quality oil that doesn?t make the clutch squeak and you?ll be sweet! Castrol, Gro, Belray are all good.

Motul Expert works great for me at least for lack of drag or slip.

I like to use Pro Honda HP Transmission Oil 80w/85w.

I have heard that some people like to use lower viscosity gear oil to reduce clutch squawking. I personally have not any issues with this on any of my Gassers, but might help if you have a noisy clutch when abused.

I have only ever used belray gear saver (changed every 10 hours) and i am well past 300 hours

It'd be hard to do better than the BelRay Gear Saver, imo.

+1 for the Motul. I haven't tried the others.

Due to my clutch(es) squeaking I have tried about 20 different oils in the last 10 months. Of course my intention was to get rid of the squeaking. I had no problem with slipping.

All my gearboxes on all gassers I had, one GP300/2018, my former EC 300/2019 and my current EC 300/2019 were rattling very loud. Once th eclutch lever was pulled it disappeared. As my KTM's had this also to a certain extent and as all others said they have it too it seems to be proven that this is normal and can not be cured with any kind of gear oil.

However, the best oil to reduce the squeaking was till today the Bel Ray Gearsaver W80. I can't remember who recommended it to me but I think it was swazi_matt.
It performs well, gives good shifting feel. The Motul 10/40 aswell as the 10/30 is equally good, but in my bike the clutch squeaked more with it than with the Bel Ray.

After I have tried so many oils I can say the squeaking has nothing to do with the viscosity, I used ATF which is thin as water when hot and it did not change anything, except that it improved clutch drag when engine was cold or hot.
