Silencers vs. Sound...thinking of changing my FMF shorty
 

I just picked up a new to me 2005 Gas Gas EC250. It has an FMF pipe and FMF shorty silencer. While I don't find the sound offensive, I live in a subdivision with homes close. I'd like to bring the sound level down. I was wondering is there really a noticable difference between a stock silencer, FMF shorty and whatever else is out there?

I know with KDX's (the other 2 stroke enduro I was considering), silencers had little to no effect. It was all in the pipe.

It may need repacking, But i dont think it will make much difference. My standard pipe on a 10 300 was louder than a fmf powercore

Just shortened my ec300 -00 silencer half of the original length. Only difference in the sound is when it "hits the pipe". Idling and small revving doesnt make a difference.:p

True, even a Stealth sounds close to the same when the bike is on the pipe.

Hey juuso, how different was the response after you shortened the muffler ?
I cut 4" out of my 11' 300 and that improved it out of sight.
