The best light setup for an 07 Ec300???
Hey Guys,
The bike is gradually being personalised to me by me but I was wondering what the best light setup is for these? The standard headlight is meant to be good and as my bike is noy rego'd as yet I have not been out at night to check. Is there a cheap way to get the lights good enough to be competitive in night racing or do I just get helmet lights or additional lights. Any help would be great as I will be doing a 24 hr race in June. Cheers Mark:) |
I guess the first place to start is to determine what ignition you have. I ssume it's the 2k3?
You can look at Trail Tech's website for ideas because the KTM's 2T's also use that ignition. http://trailtech.net/ |
If you have a 2K-3 I'd do a DC conversion and run the Trailtech integrated HIDs. These are nice, in fact I'm thinking of mounting a pair on my Ducati as driving lights.

There is a guy on here "fullthrottle" from Austrailia you might want to have a chat with. He got his stator (2K3) rewound to 200 watts by a place called betta bikes in AU. for night riding/racing. This is his setup

Cheers guys I wil check the Dc conversion thing. The ignition is a 2k3( i am pretty sure anyway...how do you tell again?).
If nothing else I will get what full throttle has as he got it where my bike was originally sold on the other side of town. Thanks again guys. |
If the wires come out of the ignition cover at 2:00 it is the 2k-3 ignition, just like in the photo above.

Thanks Eff I'll go have a look but I reckon it is .
Thanks Mark |
I think it'd be hard to do a cheap but effective light setup for racing. It really effects your speed. I did a bit of night mountain biking and if it's a problem at MTB speeds it'll be even more so on an enduro bike.

You are right but previously I had an Rmx and just had an ebay diamond cut 6" light and the original light and got by alright , that is until a bloke that could see with hid's came up and passed me.
My light were ok until compared to the daylight of hid. The thing is it is 6 races a year for three hours each and tha 24 hr road trial which is 12 hours of darkness. Therefore it is a lot of money to outlay for limited use. However I know you get what you pay for and was just interested in what others were using. Cheers Mark, |
HID's are very white and wash out the terrain,, if your colorblind at all I would stay away from these.. I have an issue with colorblindness and the HID's wash out too much of the little color I see till I have depth perception issues using them.. I tried them on a mtn bike and could not judge distance at all on obstacles,, went back to a halogen light,, no problem,,.. Try picking up a light mount like the big round one pictured above and then mount a hella crystal lens in it with a 105 osram bulb(sp?).. These do very well on rally cars.. and since you arent in the US you should have no issue picking them up..
