2007-2010 ec300 any good?

Hi I'm a new member looking to join the gasgas crew , I currently ride a 2012 klx450 but looking to transfer to a ec300 , I haven't rode a gasgas300 at all only a 2015 te300 , want to know how the ec300 go after something for tight single trail and has to be a torque monster as I'm not a small bloke will the gasgas suit?

It should do just fine. Most here do tight single track riding; it's where these bikes shine. I bought a new 2011 after doing a lot of reading on this forum. I was impressed at how many guys were comfortable riding old gasgas bikes. They felt their machines were still holding their own against all the new machines. Now that I'm riding a bike that's 8 seasons old, I feel the same way.

Hi Graham

I had a KLX450 which I used to ride on the sand dunes in the desert around Dubai. The Kawasaki and its big 4 stroke engine suited that riding just fine, the soft sand sucked so much power from the bike.

I sold the Kawasaki before moving back to Europe. Now back in France, I bought my GasGas EC300. I ride on a mixture of fast tracks, dense woodland and slow rocky sections.

Out of the 2 bikes I'm glad I'm riding the EC300 now, it feels light and nimble but still has plenty of torque/power.

I'm not the smallest of riders, 6 feet 95kg.

I used to enjoy riding the KLX450 on fast open desert but it always felt a bit bulky/heavy.

The EC300 is a great bike, just make sure you get the carb jetting set nicely, it will transform the bike. Maybe you'll be lucky and somebody has already done it for you. :)

All the best, Dave.

Thanks for the reply guys, do 2007-2010 all run the same suspension or is there a better year that stand out?

Different areas, different models, few different setups. Not necessarily one year better than another though.

Shocks with either be Ohlins 888 or Sachs. I'd prefer the Ohlins, but in saying that it's one of their low level entry shocks; there's nothing flash about it.

Forks are either 48mm Sachs; these come in about 3 different variants over the years, including internal changes. I'd go for a basic set without the external spring preload adjuster. Or 45mm Marzocchis; some of these have had issues wearing coating, but that can happen across many brands.

I would include the 2011 models as they are the last of this series.
In my opinion here is the order of the best models:
1. 2010 Nambotin—Ohlins ttx front and rear S3 cylinder and head etc
2. 2011 Nambotin —ttx rear 48 zokes front etc
3. 2011 race—ohlins 888 rear(standard and 48 zokes
The rest are about equal
