Hancock Quarry Run

Its that time again, Quarry Run weekend. I'll be going up for Sunday. If any of you guys withen range have not done this yet, you don't know what you are missing. This is not your mama's dual sport, its a real trail ride. Fantastic terrain, epic hill climbs, good enough for two years of WEC.

We volunteered to help the club in 2006 for the WEC. What a cool place! I'd come to ride it with you if I was closer and didn't have other committments.

It was fun as usual. Lots of climbs and decents, quite slick from the rain, and it rained hard around noon. Some nice, more technical singletrack on the club property at the end of the day, over 90 miles total. We had six guys in the group, pretty fast pace. Spooky fast sometimes considering the wet shale and bluestone.

The bike worked well most of the day. The fork saved my ass a few times on some high speed gouts, the 45s would have clunked hard. They get a little rough though after about 70 miles or so of rock hits, time for some tweaking.

Big problem only a few miles to the end, after pulling hills like nothing all day. Bike started surging and rattling when off the throttle, mid to top was good. Air screw did not help. Seemed hot but did not notice boilover. Figured a clogged pilot maybe, or bad gas from the Sunoco station gas stop? Rode the last couple miles back to the truck, bike pulled OK on the road through the midrange. Got changed and let it cool down, checked coolant, hardly any left. No steam, no signs of coolant on motor under vent line (dry mud). Not looking good from here.:( Either leaked out at a different spot or its in the transmission. Have to scrub it down and start the autopsoy tonight.
