Poll 2019 KTM XCW 300 TPI 6 Days

Like it or Hate it?

Is fuel injection the future for smokers?

While I like the idea of TPI, I do not like KTM's implementation of it. A buddy has the 250 version and after an easy get off he took a minute to look over his bike. I asked what he was doing and he said he had to make sure no air bubbles were in the oil feed line or it could damage the engine. He said the owners manual said it needed to be checked after a get off. I would imagine that would be real fun to try to do during a muddy race or ride. They need some sort of automatic air purge so this isn't an issue IMO. Of course, they are still fairly new so we'll have to wait and see if I'm imagining a potential problem or if it really is one.

That's a good question. I rode a friends 250 XCW TPI & really liked it. But I didn't crash it, thankfully.

Maybe run a little oil pre mix just to be on the safe side, in the event of a momentary oil starvation.

surely an air bubble will show up as 2t oil reservoir being empty? Or would it lock up the flow?

Anyway will keep the men in white coats employed for another year and give the lemmings something to buy next year

You "can't" add oil to the fuel. That would change the flow rate of the injector.
That said, you can buy a $900 GET programmer to change the fuel injector and oil flow rate.
GET also makes a throttle body mounted injector set-up. It deletes the port mounted injectors.

I can't see how adding dissolving 1 ounce of oil (that's made to completely dissolve) into 100 ounces of oil would change the viscosity of the fuel enough to have any impact on the flow rate.

I was just checking the price on the standard model, its $9899.00 USD which isn't too bad for fuel injection.:D

I have never had a complaint with the KTM power plants. The chassis and suspension however, will likely never be a good fit for me. It is good that KTM is doing the R&D (through their customers as usual) on the port injection, as it will benefit other manufacturers as they develop their own injection systems.

From what I have heard the TPI versions of the bikes are a little softer on the bottom end than their carbureted counterparts. I was surprised that KTM did not provide a method to change the mapping and/or power delivery on the 2018 TPI bikes. It seems that this would be one of the benefits of fuel injection on 2T bikes. Perhaps this is something they have/will address with 2019+ MY.
