Fuel Injected 2 Stroke...

How long before we see a Fuel Injected 2 Stroke Gas Gas?

I've never ridden a Fuel Injected 2 Stroke but would love to try one! :D

Here's KTM's...

I’ve tried the husky 300 with fuel injection and I love it. I’ve never ridden a gas bike with such a good throttle response. No question in with rpm you ride the motor, it just runs forward. No weakness no holes in the power curve and 100% control over the power without bad surprises. I’m definitely not KTM fan but these new bikes are awesome to ride.

Surely fuel injection has to be the way to go, just the fact that it's a closed loop system.

As it's constantly monitoring engine speed, throttle position, air temp, air density, etc, etc. you always get the correct mixture, no matter what altitude/weather conditions you're riding in or how you're riding.

OK, there's more electronics involved but as Fuel Injection systems have been around for many years now, these have made robust and reliable.

Hopefully rather than Gas Gas having to invest huge amounts of money developing their own system, they'll just be able to buy the same system used by other manufacturers and bolt it onto their engine.

I don't it's closed loop.

Hi Arminhammer, yes you may be correct, I'm not sure if the KTM system is closed loop.

Of course, if there's a lambda sensor monitoring the exhaust gases and the system adjusts the fuel/air mixture according to this feedback, then that would make it a Closed Loop system.

It's a lovely looking engine, I like the way the fuel is injected straight into the transfer ports.

Also no premix fuel to make up as it has a 700cc oil tank on board and injection of the 2 stroke oil is controlled separately.

I thought they would be expensive bikes but they seem to be competitively priced.

In my opinion this is a massive leap forward for 2 strokes...come on Gas Gas don't get left behind, let's see a fuel injected stroker soon! :)

Here's an article on the new KTM engine...

Just read this another article and it mentions...

"We have also been told that TM, Beta, Sherco and Gas Gas are all deep into development of two-stroke FI systems."

So hopefully we'll see a fuel injected Gas Gas 2 stroke soon. :)

KTM is having issues with their system and only few will be sold for now...
Otherwise Vertigo go hard since their first model.

I think it is normal for ktm to get the purchasers to do the testing for them, this year there will be issues, maybe some recalls and next year they will be ahead of the game

I personally know a guy who raced one of these at RedBull Romaniacs without issues (ended up 6'th Silver class)
However the local kato dealer is already working to replace/fix a couple of these engines under warranty ...

FI has been around for decades. But injected 2strokes are rare. I know people trying to make race bikes. One has succeeded, the other is 2 years in.
There are strings of failures. I haven't ridden any decent ones to understand if they really are decent, or just idiosyncratic.
It isn't the magic bullet for sure.
