Drz 400 Cylinder head on 450 fse
 

Hi has anyone else fitted a drz head on 450fse?
Mine destroyed the original head. ?Snapped valve?.
So I fitted a drz head. The bike was originally hard to start from cold ?2003? model but ok when hot. Now it?s the opposite.i suspect the compression is to high for the starter/ battery as it will start with jump leads, no chance on kick start.
Has anyone else done this conversion or had these starting issues?

Make sure the compression release is working.
Sounds like it is sticking.

The auto decompressor seems to be working.its action is fine when stripped and appears to work when rebuilt. It?s very awkward to inspect when rebuilt.
I have fitted hot cams but can?t see why they could effect the decompressor.
Seems like the starter and battery are lazy.
A previous owner fitted a later flywheel cover with different starter gears to try and solve starting issues I believe.
Are the starters supposed to turn quite fast?
As mine is relatively slow even when cold.
If it doesn?t fire in first 3/4 attempts then the battery has not enough power but jump it and it fires straight up.
