Little bit of spooge after a 1.5 hour race today, mostly on the needle. When I am WFO, feels like it never tops out. Is this more of a lean or rich symptom?

Otherwise, I might throw in the JD red or Blue to see how it feels.

Rode at 5000 ft 70 F.

JD Blue #2, 38 PJ, 170 Main. Excellent feel, could probably run a 168 main. This is the best I have gotten either my 2012 or 2018 jetted. Too bad I rarely ride this low in elevation. Zero spooge.

The kit rec. 42 PJ, Red #3, and 168 Main for 5000 to 8000 ft. I found the PJ to load up too easily for lugging, then feels lean down low with the smaller 1/4 needle taper, then opens up to a nice powerband.

Is there a needle one step leaner than the JD blue with the same taper profile?

So, after reading a lot in the forum, testing with the bike and see how it feels, jetting is like this.

AS2 carburetor
Needle & notch =NECW #2
Main jet = 172
Pilot jet = 42
Air screw setting = 2 1/4
Throttle valve:7
Fuel: 95 oct (can use 98 if better for jetting)
Oil:MOTOREX CROSS POWER 2T at 1.5%
Elevation: Sea level to 500m
Temp C?: Summer 20 to 35 / Winter 0 to 15
Riding type: Hard enduro single track and rocky creeks.


I had problems with fouling plugs, just the usual with gasgas factory settings :D so i had to deal with it. Adjust float level, clean the air filter, carb, pipe and muffler. After all that, changed stock needle :mad:
Bike goes a lot better, smooth but with power, starts easy even after a crash (before had to try several times) and fuel consumption has improved a lot!!

I just started with jetting, so if the jetting gurus see that any setting is wrong or could be a bit better please tell me!!

Edit: Been using 98 oct from the local pump and plug have a better color!!

Hi, I don't call myself an expert but the only thing I could suggest is trying a smaller pilot as your Air Screw is 2 1/4 turns out. Of course, if it's running nicely then why bother? :)

My jetting is pretty similar to yours, although mine is a 2004 EC300 with the AS1 carburetor.

Yes, i was thinking of going with a 40PJ, but if i can manage with the 42PJ during summer, (since i dont ride a lot in the summer, too damm hot :D) later in winter that air screw will be close a little.

I live close to Porto and even closer to Lagares, home of one of the best hard enduro events, the Extreme XL Lagares.

When I got the bike new it had an N1ef needle in it and the sucker was very fat on the last 1/4 of throttle when rolled on from low speed in top gear.

I've since changed to NECW and left the jetting the same, went out today and down low the bike feels substantially "crisper/responsive" :)

Not near as bad as before, when you roll it on in top gear at a slow speed you get to that last 1/8th throttle and it lays over(fat).

It feels bad enough that I don't feel that dropping the needle one groove will have enough impact, I am steering toward going with a 172.5 main and leaving the needle where it is.

Thoughts?

Yes the stock needle is baaaaad!! :mad:

This is my opinion, base on what i have learn in this forum and testing on my bike.
Always keep an eye on the spark plug color to see whats going on with the engine!!

What notch, 3???
Going with the 172 MJ is a good idea. Try that and see how it feels...
If your not happy after that, you can lower the needle one notch.
My setting is similar, but with a 2013 gasgas.

Yeah it's in the 3rd groove, I'll leave it where it is and throw the 172 jet in and see how I get on........hopefully get out this weekend for a test run :cool:

I don't mind if it's a bit fat, but I'd rather not be going through plugs flatout :(
