2001 Gas Gas EC250

I just picked up a 2001 EC250 with low hours for a decent price from a guy I trust.

One of the things he said that probably needs service is the fork seals and dust wiper. He tore the dust seal on one of the legs when he was removing it to try cleaning out the seal with a business card since it was weaping. He managed to remove some dirt from the seal and it is not weaping now but the dust cover is damaged.

He said that if I were to replace the dust cover I probably should look at replacing the seal as well.

My question is how can I determine which forks are on the bike. He seems to think they are WP forks but I see there are Marz and Ohlins forks that were used in that year as well. Would like to know for sure before I order parts.

Welcome to the site. If you are in the US, it almost certainly has the WP43 USD forks. VERY easy to work on, and parts are easy to get. Some were brought in with Ohlins but not many. WPs have a grey anodized upper tube, 43mm lower. Ohlins are gold, 46mm lower.

ALWAYS replace seals and wipers together, as well as inspecting the bushings.

Thanks for the info! I will check the measurements. I guess I can head down to my local KTM dealer and probably pick up the seals and dust cap since since I think the WP43 USD was used on a lot of KTMs.

Synergy Seals also offers seals and dust wipers. Synergy Seals also sponsors this site. Synergy Seals, unfortunately, doesn't offer bushings yet (but is considering it).

WP43's

Glad to see this post. I was just looking at my 2000 XC250 and wondering which forks it has as I plan to rebuild them this winter.

The WP manual on the site is great, but there are refrences to tools and products that are not completely explained.

I see the T132 is loctite 2071, but what about the T 158, T 131, T163 and T511?

Also what about special tools? Is any fork seal driver useable, or do I need a special WP driver (I would think not).

Any input would be great.

No special tools. I just did the seals on mine this morning. Just a 43mm seal driver and two 21mm open wrenchs to remove the cap.
