Debris (wire) In First Oil Change

2 Attachment(s)
I've just done the first oil change on my '19 EC300 and apart from the usual shavings there was wire like debris stuck to the drain plug magnet. Does anyone know where it's from or is it a bonus bit from assembly? It almost looks like a wire spring clip.

Having a look on the exploded diagrams the only thing I can see it might be is the clutch pressure ring - ME23150GG-CAB-1.

No issues or sounds with the gearbox at present.

Yikes! Can you post up some bigger pics? They are so small I can't really see what it is.

Hopefully this photo is a little clearer

Probably time to call the dealer you bought it from?

Do the bits look like they make a complete piece or could there be some more still left in the engine?

Harty89 02-09-2019 07:50 AM

I definitely will be calling the dealer when they are open again.
Difficult to say but I think it's all there. I have both ends it's just the middle section that's unknown. After starring at it for a while, it looks awfully like a wrist pin retaining clip to me.

I do not recall any internal part that looks like that. Maybe something fell in upon engine assembly at the factory?

That was my initial thought but there's no way that it could have got into the gearbox from the crank side without it being called Houdini. It would have to be a stray part in the factory. The wrist pin would have been hitting the bore by now and the cylinder would be trashed. I reckon you would have noticed.

It would be simple to take the clutch cover off and check the pressure ring is still intact. Probably best to let the dealer do that.

That is the gear selector spring.
Mounted on the right side inner case, behind the clutch.

Go to "exploded".

The one that is on the detent wheel as shown here? There are two on the shift shaft. One is a smaller coil spring and the other is much thicker. That 180 bend looks factory to me and is not on any of the springs I have seen.

gasgasman 02-09-2019 11:30 AM

The 180 bend does look intentional. No marks on the wire from being crushed into that shape.

Like you said, I don't recall anything like that in the transmission.
