I'll probably be doing this race, am planning to go out there this weekend on my MTB and have a look just to check the conditions, its a clay base so will be slippery with the rain we have had over the last few days. If its fine and windy all next week will probably make it easier, but not much.

Can you post some directions.
Not 100% sure if going yet. Bike is in bits and its a 6hr drive.
Worse still for my mate as he is in Wairoa, another 2hrs drive for him, ha.

Heres a link to a Google map page that will hopefully have directions from the start of the Southern Motorway.

I'm not sure I have the end of the path in the correct place but its somewhere on the road assuming its where they run all there riverhead rides. I will be sign posted well before that.

Also we have had quite alot of rain over the weekend so will be wet.

If you can't see the map or it dosn't have directions on it (I think it will) let me know and I can do write it out. It only takes about 25-30min from central Auckland to get to the race venue.

Was a good race, was a fine day, but the rain over the last couple of weeks made it slippery and muddy. This made it technically difficult but it was still good fun. I came 40th in the offical results but I made a mistake when coming through the start finish area at the end of lap one and didn't know I had to place the transponder around my wrist up against the reader so my 1st lap wasn't counted. So the offical results show I only did 2 laps when I actually did 3. Dosn't worry me I know where I came, and it was my fault for not using the transponder properly. Photos 8822 and 8848 on that website are me.
