08 FSR 515 hard to start.Flooding.

Hi everyone, I have a 08 fsr 515. Got it with a leaking head gasket so pulled it down got new gaskets, faced the head and new piston and rings. Since then it's been really hard to start if I can get it started at all. Smells like it's flooding. Runs ok when it starts. Fires most of the time and puffs out grey black smoke when trying to start as if it's getting way too much juice. When I was plugging everything back in I crossed over the injector plug and temp sensor plug. Will this have damaged the sensor or ecu which is causing it to flood? What are the readings meant to be for the temp sensor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a chance that you killed the temp sensor...
Temp sensor reading should be about 3kiloOhms@25C

Thanks. I did see the link you put up. I measured mine yesterday at about 2kohm.
Is that too much out of spec?

It depends what was the temperature when you measured it?
2KOhm would mean temperature about 30-35C.
When i rebuild my FSE450 then it was also hard starting...but after some time it got better.
Did you mess around with TPS sensor? (throttle position sensor)

Willsyj 10-13-2016 06:12 AM

I'd say it was less than 20degrees. Haven't touched the tps. Should I?

Tafka 10-13-2016 06:30 AM

No! If you don't have software and cable to reset the TPS then leave it! Just asked if you touched it :)
But if you say that temp was more like 20C then i think the water temp sensor is busted. It should be over 3KOhm @20C.
But lucily the sensor is pretty cheap and car sensor will fit! Most car part shops should find a cross-reference part when you give them part nr WTS05 or for example Hella code is 6PT 009 309-291. Or maybe you can borrow the sensor from somewhere for testing :)

Old topic ,didnt want to create new one , but i had similar problem , in my case it didnt flood ,but starting was very hard ,sometimes it didnt even start. I had big crack inside the rubber hose that ise between engine and throttlebody. After fixing that ,engine starts usaually with second or third attempt(dont know is it normal) but a least it starts now.
After taking cover of the bike i noticed a little sensor near the ecu ,it looks like open temp sensor. Can somebody explane the purpous of that sensor.
