I have an '01 XC300 and a '06 EC300.

The XC is the earlier version of the DE with a lighter flywheel and 35W coil. The EC has a significantly larger flywheel and 100W coil.

The XC has a very light flywheel. Since I ride much of the year in greasy wet clay, rocks and roots, I like a lot of flywheel to get good traction. I added a 14 oz flywheel weight to my XC300 and it still has less total flywheel than the EC300.

I have not noticed any downside with a larger flywheel where I ride. Both the XC300 and EC300 with heavy flywheels have plenty of snap, even in sand.

If you really want snap without stalling, then install a Rekluse on a DE. You may spin a lot in slippery conditions, but you will not have to worry about stalling.
