I have the same problem with mine. Apparently the 2019 model has a small lip on the rear guard which overlaps the side plastic, stopping it from popping out of the rubber grommet. It would probably be pretty easy to reproduce something similar with a little DIY.
Perhaps someone with a 2019 could post a closeup of the lip..
