Nick: Its tough to tell which would be better for you - if you fill your address the collected minds here might have a better chance of giving you good advice.
I'm racing a 250 in Michigan because I can handle it at the end of a 3 hour hare scrambles in our tight to moderately tight woods, and the fact that our average speeds are between 14 and 18 mph. I used the ignition switch several times a lap Sunday, so the 250s slightly lower power (vs a 300) wasn't an issue.
The 300 feels a little heavier - gyro, not actual weight - and has more bottom, mid, and top. If I was racing faster events or riding more open trails I might pick this one. Hard to go wrong in either case.
