The speedo on mine works off DC voltage and the generator is making AC, so just behind the headlight is a capacitor and a diode, which half wave rectifies to provide DC.

lol, no wonder this bike is awesome, its got ac/dc in it?
... so this rectifier, would it be a little black thing, about an inch square, mounted with a rubber clip? how would I test it? how many volts ac should I look for going into it? and I assume 12-15vdc coming out?
