You can get achieve a similar effect to an expansion chamber with a tuned (specific) length of constant radius pipe, but on a much narrower band of RPM. I believe that electronic powervalves could be used to help simulate the 2 stroke powerband. The expansion chamber is only really important for high RPM operation, if you consider trials bikes, all 2 stroke trials bikes run constant radius or very nearly, exhausts.
