Both my boys had KX100s and they we excellent trail bikes, The KX100 has many similarities to the KX85 but with the larger bore the 100s are not as peaky as the 85cc MX bikes. My one son came off a yz85 and the KX 100 was much mellower than the yz.

In addition to what was mentioned above in this post, you can also pick up some bottom end by advancing the ignition timing a few degrees. If you want to move the power band lower have someone cut the base of the cylinder 0.5 to 1mm to change the port timing and increase compression both of which will move the bottom end into the lower rpm range. You will need to double check squish to make sure you have proper clearance.
