The preferred designation in the US has been XC since about 2012, when spare graphics that said XC were shipped with the bikes. It seems the rest of the world gets EC designated motorcycles.
A little trivia question (to which I don't know the answer) - if XC stands for Cross Country, what does EC stand for?
