'02+ both 250 and 300 are stuffed.
I suspect they do some fancy TIG and grinder work on the transfer area of the cases that matches the 250 cyl perfectly, no longer allowing the 300 to fit. Perhaps they started with a 300 because thats what they had on hand? Lower ends ARE the same, it would make no difference.
