On the older bikes, the alloy plug was sealed with an o-ring. This required no more than snugging it down with a hex key, not much torque. Now they seemed to have gone to crush washers that need more torque to seal. I just use the o-ring, no problems. By in bulk for a few bucks and replace at every oil change.
