That's a bummer, man. Drink your milk and heal up - our hare scrambles chairman has tried coming back with a plated tib/fib and it continues to give him grief to the point of not being able to completely buckle his boot.
I think standard practice is to run the hardware until you get to a convenient time to remove it - the fewer surgeries the better.
