Jonny,
I have the same forks on my 97 and 98's. The way it works is one of your forks controls preload only while the other is compression only. This can be really easy to adjust or very hard if you do not know which fork is which. Just play around with one of the adjusters by going all the way in and then out. With-in a couple pushes of the forks you will tell whether it is your rebound or compression fork. It's actually a great fork but contaminates very easily so you need to change the fork oil a lot (i ride every weekend and change about every month and 1/2 to 2 months. Also depending on what kind of fork oil wgt you are using the forks will either be plush or very harsh. I have found that a good 7 wgt seems to run nice in them but have even heard of some using 10. I would not suggest going lighter than 7 though because your forks will be unbelievably harsh.
