Its pretty easy to tell if there is combustion products in the coolant. You will usually see oily deposits floating on top when the cap is removed.

If you do have a problem, be sure to check the head for warpage. The o-ring should not go bad for no reason. Usuallly its from being pinched on assembly or from a warped surface.
