The LHS PV doesn't need a nut on it (and doesn't come with one stock). I would leave it out all together.
With the gaskets, I loosen off the bolts a bit and then give the part you're removing a couple of taps with a mallet (sometimes use some timber to aim it up in certain areas). The shock often breaks the gasket surface away cleaner.. but not always. A bit of grease on the surfaces on assembly helps too.
