The universal R/R may not be a good match for the bike. The white and yellow wires are not out of phase, they are simply different "taps" on the complete winding. Both may be used for different puposes. I use the yellow+ground for AC power to my heated grips. The white wire+ground goes into the stock R/R and does the battery charging. My LED lights are connected to operate on DC power. The GG stator is single phase.
