I don't know what a sense wire is. You would need a schematic of the RR internals to know how it is supposed to work. The question is what happens with the grounding? With two wires marked as AC input, it could need an isolated AC supply. The GG stator is not isolated since the bottom point of the winding is actually ground.

The usual way to get around this is to leave the DC output floating. This means white (or yellow) plus ground into the RR with the DC output not being grounded.

You used the white and ground as the AC input to your aftermarket RR. You could use yellow and ground as input to reduce the voltage a bit. This might give you more battery life.
