No oil in Transmission
I just bought this '01 EC250 and I have put in three rides of about 30 miles each ride. I decide to change the transmission oil but not one drop comes out. When I bought it I noticed the clutch would not disengage when I pulled it in unless the engine was running. I thought that might be a Gas Gas Hydraulic clutch thing. It has been doing just fine on the trail and is doing better since I put oil in the transmission. The clutch now disengages when I pull it in without the engine running. I do not see any leaks. What should I look for and what kind of damage can I expect to see in the future from this episode? I will run it a few minutes and change the oil again to see if any debris is in it as soon as I get the chance. The oil sight glass is too dark to see if there is oil in the transmission.

Which drain plug did you try to drain?
The rear plug is the oil drain. |

You know something; it might have been the front drain plug. I am not used to having two plugs under the bike. I will have to check it this afternoon when I get off of work.

Its a crankcase drain, in case you drown the bike. Eaiser than turning it upside down on the trail.

The front drain goes to the crank in case you drown a bike and need to drain the water (prevent hydrolocked motor). The rear drain is for the tranny oil like Eff mentioned.
DO NOT go by the sight glass on the side... it's only there for a sanity check to make sure something is in there. If you don't have an owner's manual yet, they are free to download so you don't have an excuse anymore. Drain all the tranny oil and refill with 900 mL of Rotella T 5w-40 synethetic. It is very easy to get at Walmart or your local auto store. It works great and has low clutch drag. By the way, these bikes do have clutch drag with a dead engine and bike in gear. I always use neutral when moving the bike around or cold engine starts.
