2018 GP300 - Am I up for a New Conrod?
I'm doing an 80 hour piston change on my 2018 GP300 and found that that measuring with feeler gauges that the axial clearance of the big-end bearing is just out of work shop manual spec, measuring at 1.05mm (spec is 0.8 - 1.0mm max).
There is no up & down play in the conrod. The piston and barrel look OK apart from expected piston wear. The manual states 120 hours for replacing the conrod. Would I be pushing it to wait until my next piston change-out at say 150 hours to split the cases & change the conrod? Thanks.

Done 160 hours on my 250 with no issue. Don't plan on doing the rod until 300-400 hours at least. 120 hours may be under extreme use/racing.

I'd be very surprised if you need a new conrod/big end at 80 hours or even at 150 hours.

Nope. I would not even bother measuring it. I have seen so many cranks put together with such wildly different measurements on axial play. If no up and down play keep riding!

I'm thankful that there was no interwebs in the 70's-80's, the 1000's of hours I put on my 2 smokers back then would have worked out a lot more expensive

If there is no up/down play don't worry about it. When the side play gets excessive, usually then it's time to check the up/down play.

And beware that there is quite a lot of up down play in the mains. So dont get too scared of that.
My left main died and I replaced the rod at the same time. Starting to get some washer wear so might not have lasted another year or two. So 11 years is getting close to the limit unless you are riding quite a lot. 120hrs to replace? pfft!

I don?t think so
My 2011 has the original crank. The GasGas cranks seem to be very tough. I would ride it and check it when you do the top end again.

Yeah, I'll keep an eye on it at next top end and see if it's worn any more. I'm thinking it might have that much clearance when the factory assembles the crank
