combined rider/bike weight
how about a poll of combined weight of bike and rider, and perhaps then a power to weight index for riders based on bike output.bike fully fuelled, all lubricants, protection etc,and rider in all gear.ive weighed my bike two ways-on the liftstand on the bathroom scales-and front wheel weight, added to rear wheel weight.the diff was negligible+/-0.5kg so the 'each wheel' method prob the easiest.cheap scales accuracy?unknown!
Anyway,heres mine-ive included anything that would affect weight from stock 13 200 p3 pipeguard,p3 bashplate,rad braces,with kickstand,and factory lighting 118.5kg rider with gear,incl small toolkit,and 1litre water 76kg grand total 194.5kg 38hp? divided by 194.5kg equals 0.195hp/kg

Its all variable. I don't know what the bike weighs in at, but I know the 2013 is definitely heavier than the 2010. I feel the different noticably when moving it around. In motion, they both are no issue at all.
Bike weight varies heaps depending on how much mud is stuck to it, how many L of fuel left, which brand of tyres, tubes, mouses, etc. How many tools you carry. How many litres of water. My weight varies depending how much I've induldged, but mostly hovers around 75kgs when dressed in day to day attire. Put me in bike gear with a tool roll and a backpack, plus 3L of water and an extra L of fuel, and I'd say I'd be up over 100kgs. Then wet me and add a few more. I guess what I'm saying, is that for me weight is not an issue. Not when its a few kgs here or there. How the bike rides and how much rider input it takes to keep it going where you want it to has a much bigger effect. |

I agree weight is only one factor.was responding to another thread baggin the gasgas weight which got me thinking how saving a few kilos bike weight means nothing if youre 20kg heavier than your mates.still felt it would be an interesting poll.

I just don't get the whole "my bike is lighter, than your bike" thing. Try spending a few hours wrestling an f800gs through the singles. After that, any brand of offroad bike will feel light as a feather & be a joy to ride.

I did weigh my '04 200 once. I think it was around 225 to 235 lbs. cant remember exactly. Once rolling you really cant feel the weight on the gas gas. Its real nimble and has a nice light feel. I've had a couple of KDX 200's and they feel heavy when riding vs the gas gas even though there about the same weight. It really comes down to terrain, weather, tires, tubes, suspension, skill, etc.
bowhunter007, I just sold a R1100GS. You want heavy, try rolling it through the woods, I have. uggggg. I'll stay on my little gasgas for off roading.

I run a 990 Adventure and just love jumping back on the GasGas after a day on the trails wrestling that beast around I'd be better off going for a run than worrying about what bike weighs 10 kg more than the rest |
