Default 450 won't start please help

Finally have some sign of spring and I can't get the bike started. It started fine a month ago in a warm garage but has not been touch since. The battery is weak from trying so I am working with the kick starter. Is there a trick with the 45o? Its a 2006 and I have kicked my heart out and not even a sign. Its my first FI bike so maybe I am missing something. I did a bit of a search but did not find anything. I have read that the 2004 and earlier models were a challenge to kick start so maybe the 06's are as well? I hope I can get it out before it snows again...
Thanks

You might want to change the spark plug.

I'd give this a shot:

Turn ignition off and kick it round for a few rounds with wide open throttle, to clear out excessive fuel. Kick slowly just past the TDC, and the cams will help settle the crank in a new position.

Support your bike so you can stand on the pegs.

Take up the slack in the kick starter, turn ignition on, open throttle wide open(if cold)

And kick it smooth, firm and fast through the whole stroke.

If it does not start, repeat from the top. You might try no throttle too.

Thanks for all the replies. After kicking, kicking, kicking (you get the picture), I recharged the battery and after a few attempts, it started. I hope I don't run into this problem in the woods.
The stand piss me off so bad that i took it off, cut is shorter, took the bend out of it and did the chain link mod. Now I can somewhat stand on it and kick. Why such a great bike would have such a terrible stand on it is beyond me.
I will give a first ride review asap.
Thanks again

I am having issues staring the bike when hot, not all the time, but often enough. The bike is running great other then that but its annoying when I stop, I have to let it cool down and then it starts. It will sometimes start if you turn the key off, kick it several times to burn off the gas, turn back on and away it goes. Today was different, I waited 5 minutes and it finally started with with the throttle wide open.
Any ideas?

I was tinkering a bit with ecu trim adjustments on my 05, and I got very similar problems to what you are describing. What I did to GET the problems was increasing the trim number from factory set '16' to new '29' to make it run a little richer. Did that because I thought it was running a little lean/hot. To accommodate the richer trim I adjusted the idle adjuster screw slightly, from a TPS readout of 5,7 to new readout 6.2 to make it idle cleanly.

With this new richer trim the bike was horrible to start when warm. Had to kick it out with ignition off several times. Later I went back to factory trim setting, but kept the new idle adjustment setting. Bike now idles a little higher than stock, but not too much. But as a bonus it has become very easy to start, both cold and warm. And yes, a lot easier to kick start too.

Before I did any changes I occasionally had warm start problem, but now it fires right up, I don't even have to wait for the fuel pump primer cycle to complete before hitting the e-button, just key on and hit the button at the same time.

Perhaps this can aid you in your diagnosis.
