The whole point of the Hyde being a unified skid plate/pipe guard is the rigidity in the pipe guard now being mounted to the frame. Frontal impact and kink protection are unsurpassed except probably by the Whipps type guards. If its the plastic that bugs you, it would not be hard to address with an aluminum plate mounted on the inside of the plastic, or as I plan on trying, tubing (pipe) sections cut to fit over the frame member sections.
