Ill take the current tranny anyday over any mx tranny with a stupidly high 1st gear, and only 5cogs.
The six speed allows a nice allround package, you can have a crawler gear and a decent topend.its much more flexible if geared down/up as the trade off of topend v bottom is less severe.wide 5spd on a 450 perhaps...but i have no inclination to swing that way

The current transmission works pretty good for my normal usage. Works good in the single and can still cruise down the side of the road at 70-80kmh without being on the pipe. Occasionally, I think first could be a tad lower when I'm in real tight spots...

Desert guys may want a trans with a bit more space between gears....??

Actually I am suggesting a smaller one, and have it located on the RH side of the engine where you must remove the exhaust just to get to it.

Oh wait...that's been done already.

Oh has it? How nice!

And I think your exhaust idea might have just described our Multistradas. haha
