Jake, you have the hard stuff done already. The tires and the other stuff should be relatively easy and inexpensive. I just saw this thread on a Ty Davis new model husky 125 build, it looks cool so far.

I've run into a small issue I'm trying to work through.. Upper rpm she breaks up (missing and firing what sounds like every other cycle). Happens in every gear, neutral included.
Have checked resistance on the stator, coil, lead, cap, etc. Tried a couple different plugs. Went from a 470 main down to a 420 as a test. Fell lean above half throttle but still broke up (although didn't sound as abrupt). I just don't think it was pulling as hard. Definitely not a fuel flow issue. Initially considered starvation, but it happens in neutral with a quick handful of throttle too. Pulled reeds and they look like new. |

Negative. Carb was cleaned thoroughly and I have dropped the fuel plug a few times since (to modify and check). Tank was flushed and inline filter between tank and carb. Nice clean fuel flowing through.

Did you paint the frame or engine? If so, check for paint at the engine mounts causing poor ground for ign system. If frame painted, might as well check the coil/black box mounting point as well. All things that might help and can't hurt.

Or, my old saw - How's the packing in the silencer? Any other blockage possibilities?

I pulled the silencer apart. Removed a heap of steel wool that was in there. It wasn't blocking the inner pipe/causing any real obstructions though. Packing didn't seem over tight or soaked in spooge so I put it back together. Haven't tested yet.
On assembly ensured that there was good contact to the frame on engine mounts and on the coil. Also had the coil removed recently to double check resistance. At the same time clipped both ends of the plug cable. Specced up the same, but also haven't tested since. Currently have the reeds out, so plan was to install reeds again with the replacement intake boot that I had ordered during the build up. Then see if it's mysteriously fixed itself. |
