What size rear sprocket for XC 300
I?m looking to make my 18 XC 300 lug a little better. How much of a difference will a bigger rear sprocket make? Will it change the feel of the bike everywhere else? Size reccomendations?

Many uses 50t at the rear with good results.

Bigger gain needed with 50T ?

I think the chain will need another link to fit the 50T on.. maybe.
I've always ran 13-50 in my bikes. I find it just tightens up the ratios enough to keep it on song a bit easier and avoid having to knock back to 1st too often. In saying that I'll be giving 13-48 a red hot go on my 18. If they make the extra powaaah they claim they do it should be aye OK. |

I've been running 13/50 on my 13, will run the 13/48 that came stock on the 18 and make the decision when that wears out. I was pleased with the 13/48, if you go to a 50 you will for sure need a few more links.

I’ve run 13/48, 13/51 and 12/48 I prefer how the bike handles with the 12/48 wheel base on my 2010

Maybe 13/50 is better for hard trails... Minor clutch use! |

I?m going to stick with 13/48 for the time being.
Now that I have installed the Rekluse, I have even less reason to swap. I don?t do a lot of super-duper tough climbs, though. |

For single track I run 13/52. 13/50 works well for more open riding. 13/48 could cause more clutch wear if you ride slower terrain. You can always run a 12 counter sprocket with the 48 to get your ratio closer.

I had dropped my 2011 GG250 down to 12T to good effect.
Counter sprocket wear is increased a few percent. Not bad. I don?t think I will go with the smaller CShaft on the 300. Of course, I don?t have enough chain slack for a larger rear sprocket, so a new chain is factored in (I won?t just add links). At some point the larger rear sprocket starts to interfere with the chain guide. A 50T seems manageable. But I had do modify my 2005 GG 250 chain guide (an XR400 guide) when I tried a 52T and was never quite satisfied with the fit. |
