Good work mate! I'll be revalving mine before they go on. Got a few weeks up my sleeve yet.

Gosh I never reported back, mainly as life and nasty injury stopped me riding for a while.
Got the YZ forks revalved by local K-Tech chap here to the club rider MX & enduro spec. Revelation. Or should that be Revalvation? But ssoo much better than yz valving for our rough terrain. Just much much better and leagues better than marzoccis even after revalve. Don't feel so beat up after a ride.

Hi F5 Are you able to share the final dimensions of the axle spacers you made up? I'm procrastinating on the same route and may also use the older GG bearings in my 09 wheel as an easy way to adapt to the 20mm YZ axle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well. . . Icould pop ddownstairs, prop the front up and take the axle out. . . but if there are any changes between 2006 yz clamps and whatever you have plus the 07gg front wheel and bearings I used then it would be putting you crook.
Its real easy to do the change, use the oversize gg spacers and add a washer or two to get the wheel in the middle from the butside of the axle. Measure from rim to fork and on other side. You can then add spacer to the other side and measure gap to thick part of axle. Then recreate in proper size id spacer. Remember the floating section of the axle means you have a little leeway as long as you clamp that side up after nut is tight and bounce on it.

Oh, alright. Make em both 22mm.
My floating side is actually 24mm but the axle isn't quite flush on the outside floating side. About 2mm. Its the nut side that's critical. I should really cut the 24 down to 22 in case I ever swap them by mistake.

Thanks mate. Your description is just as valuable as the measurements and gives me some good guidance, especially the criticality of the nut side

Tag for reference to an ongoing fork swap project.
Sure is nice to have access to my own machine shop for this kind of work. |
