I hate big fuel tanks...until now
I never really liked the idea of long range tanks. I love the small feeling of MX bike fuel tanks. But I had to fit up a Clarke tank for a desert trip last month. When the trip was cancelled due to floods here in Australia, I left it on my EC300.
To my surprise I really like the way it feels when seated. I can't explain why, but when sitting forward it makes me feel confident. The higher top of the tank/fuel cap doesn't get in the way even as a run a toolbag/fanny pack facing forward. The shrouds flair out a little but have not been able to catch them on anything yet, so I am going to leave it on for a bit longer. I even used it at an Extreme Sprint the other day.

We put them on both of our bikes last spring intending to take them back off but left them on also. Peace of mind for those longer trail rides if nothing else.

Has anyone fit a larger tank to a 2010 yet?

Keg: What mods did you have to make (if any) to get the Clarke to fit? Based on your signature I'm assuming you're talking about your 2010 EC - what capacity (and or p/n) for the tank?

Is that the new model Clarke 3.2 gallon tank for the 07 and on (although there are mounting issues with GG relocating the coil on 09/10/11 bikes) or the older model (06 and before) which some have managed to cram on there somehow?
http://www.clarkemfg.com/cart/index....roducts_id=428 Pics if you have some would be great. Clay is gonna press GG to make bigger tanks available when he has a chance to come up for air (or another glass of beer )

I have the 07 onwards tank. My bike is an Australian 2010 EC300R that I got a year ago. This model does not have the new 'B' section frame but the peg mounts and everything else seem like 2010. It came with the 09 style white plastics.
I simply did not run the r/h bracket for it to fit. The seat and shrouds hold it on as well as the l/h bracket. A mate broke a fuel tap a few weeks back on a KTM (ofcourse) and when we took it out there was a heap of little bits of material all over it. We did not know what it was until he said he was running fuel tank foam.

Must be cheap brand after all the tanks are plastic i used Zero G foam its 2 years old and i have drained my tank only 2 weeks ago, i took off the tank cap and straight into the jerry via a filter funnel, no plastic bits. Others in my club are using it also. I does say after 5 yrs to replace but i doubt if the prduct has been on the market that long yet.
On your next ride with ya mate around 60 kms grab his bike when you have stopped a push on the front forks and feel what happens, then do it on your bike and you will feel the difference, when your riding the effect is greater, its great stuff. |
