Well its like I said, you do what you have to do. I had a Ford pickup that would ping on regular, but that doesn't mean my Tundra should run on plus if regular is fine. The only indication of a possible ethanol problem has been the fuel cap gasket, but to be fair that could be from another fuel component as well. My kids bikes ('07 Kawasakis) have had no rubber detereoration issues so far. Not saying nothing will ever happen, just not a problem for a few years now. FWIW, at a hare scramble held at an MX park this past weekend, 5 gal. drums of Dragon race fuel (110) were being sold for $70.

I'm headed out the door right now to run errands one of which is to get my 5 gal jug filled with VP110 at the mere price of $40.. and to think when I was a kid my dad bought 110 leaded at the pump for 25 cents a gallon, of course that was before we ran completely out of fossil fuel in the 70s.

here's the plug - looks kinda nasty - i did swamp the bike for a few secs on sunday

kinda impossible to read probably because of it.. it looks rich, but sucking some water in the airbox probably permanently screwed up the plug for reading...

yeehaw. it had nothing to do with race gas.

i played with jetting, and there was no effect on the top end. no matter what i did it felt lifeless.

repacked silencer thinking it was plugged. no difference.


pull the pipe, pull pv cover, and SURPRISE! the bolt on end of pv was just laying in there. reattached and it's back to throwing dirt proper like.

Thought something else was up. Now do an objective evaluation of race vs pump gas. Maybe you need, maybe you don't. 10 gal of gas equals a fresh tire.

I'll run race gas (VP) in early March at the first enduro. Cold, wet sand, and a fresh motor. I always ran mostly race gas then to offset the double hit from the cold and ethanol leaning things out. Once temps moderate its a non issue.

BTW that reddish brown plug looks typical of what I have seen on my bikes running leaded VP red or C12. Not neccessarily bad.

running regular gas with new plug, airflter, repack silencer, this weekend. will find out how it goes.
